Overview

At first glance the G1 looks very much like any other smart phone but look a little deeper and you’ll notice a few things that make this latest offering from T Mobile stand out from the crowd.

The first thing you’ll notice is the nifty qwerty ‘slide-out’ keyboard. Anyone who’s struggled to type out a message on a similar phone will appreciate the difference.

Another nifty feature is the interactive screen which allows you navigate menus and scroll through web pages at the touch of a finger. Alternatively, there is a handy trackball which has a similar feel and functionality of a conventional computer mouse device.

These features aside, the real difference between the G1 and other smart phones is the operating system. All of Google’s usual services such as search, g mail and google maps integrate perfectly.

Early next year you’ll also get the benefit of Google’s  Street View addition to their established maps application. Google’s cars have been busy this year touring the UK and recording images of all our towns and cities so you’ll no longer have any excuse to not find your way around.

The Android operating system has been designed to integrate perfectly with Google’s existing and future services and also, because it’s an open source application there will be an unlimited array of new applications to download and use as you wish?

Another great feature of the G1 is the in-built music player. With 1Gb of memory
as standard  and the option to add-on more, this should be ample to cope with your favourite music collections as well as giving you the opportunity to download MP3s directly from the Amazon Music Store.

All in all, an interesting and useful  phone with loads of useful applications and an operating system which breaks new ground and heralds the start of something big.
